Create your own stunning interpretation of an African storage vessel with international South African artist Andile Dyalvane.
In this workshop, Andile will share with you his unique coiling and surface decoration techniques that form part of his wider creative practice using stories, memories, sketches, detailed drawings, and clay interpretations.
Andile will begin with a demonstration then you will get your hands straight into the clay – Andile will guide you in finding your way of making the form.
You are encouraged to bring your own found objects, like seeds, stones, keys etc, or even your favourite tool, to create textures and patterns on your pot.
For Andile, it is important that your own personal narrative is entwined in your work. The weekend focuses not only on making and decorating techniques but also on the vessel as a expressive means of storytelling.
Andile will also demonstrate his glaze and underglaze application techniques to give you a unique insight into his practice.
