Leach Pottery Apprenticeship Programme

The Leach Pottery has an active programme for taking on apprentices in its St Ives studio
aimed at beginners or those will little experience of studio pottery

The Leach Pottery’s successful scheme for apprenticeships is a paid two-year placement at foundation level (plus an additional third year), aimed at someone with little or no previous experience of ceramics and with priority given to those based permanently in Cornwall. Our aim is to train potters in studio production and learn the skills behind the Leach Pottery Standard Ware.

Graduating apprentice Ellie Woods’ graduate show takes place 19 July - 18 August 2024.

In May 2024, Leach Pottery welcomed Callum Cowie as its new apprentice.

How to apply - apprenticeship

We expect to take on our next apprentice in 2025/6. You can register your interest by signing up to our email alert and we will endeavour to send you information about the next apprenticeship. Please include your name and an email and phone number.

Competition is fierce for apprenticeships but applicants can expect to attend an open day before shortlisting and interviews.

In 2013, Seasalt's Founder, Neil Chadwick, came up with the idea of the Seasalt Bursary to support a new trainee at the Leach Pottery - in 2014 the search began. Applications from as far afield as Spain and the USA were received, but in the event the first apprentice, Callum Trudgeon, came from just a few streets away from the Pottery.
