Barry Huggett

After pursuing a different career my hiatus from pottery is now over and I am back at the wheel in my new home studio in Swanpool.

I am fortunate to have a long history with Cornwall Crafts Association having first exhibited in the 1970’s whilst CCA was based in Falmouth Art School. I remained a continuous member until the 2000’s when I moved away from pottery. I have since rejoined and exhibit at Trelissick.

My previous work was salt and soda glazed stoneware but now I am using and experimenting with lower fired different glazes and exploring the outcome - incorporating  a wide variety of domestic and gallery pieces. I am enjoying moving my pots into a new chapter which includes brighter colours, combining traditional glaze and slip decoration with texture depth and movement using a combination of bold mark-making and subtler decoration, all underpinned by solid technical ability. My throwing includes a broad selection of vessels for domestic ware, individual gallery pieces and the things I like throwing best, bowls and jugs just for the love of it.
