Helen Lee: Shop
Helen makes ‘mid-fired’ earthenware pots at the Gaolyard Studios in St Ives. Inspired both the early English slipware tradition and the size of the sea and the sky in Cornwall, the pots shown here were made from terracotta clay; stains and sgraffito decoration applied over a leather-hard white slip.
Helen uses a two-stage firing, with bisc fired to cone 6 (1,000°C) and the transparent glaze fired to Cone 4 (1,160°C), giving a richer, darker colour to the ware.
