Kat Wheeler: Shop

Currently working from her workshop at the Gaolyard Studios in St Ives, Kat has moved away from gas firing and now uses an electric kiln to fire all her pots up to 1200°.

Pots are thrown on the wheel using grogged terracotta clay; each piece decorated with slips using a variety of techniques, including hakeme and scrafitto, as well as slip trailing and layering thick slip to create texture. The work is then simply glazed using modified glazes which have been developed by Kat and include matte blues, pale greens, yellows and a sumptuous amber.
