Nick Rees
Nick began potting in 1972 when he joined John Leach for an apprenticeship at Muchelney Pottery, Somerset. Nick remained at Muchelney Pottery as a Master Potter for 46 years, where he spent his days producing the wood-fired, catalogue range of oven-to-tableware. Nick retired from from there in 2018.
Parallel to his work at Muchelney, Nick has always developed his own range of work, where he explores a subtle, refined approach to shape and design – accentuated through carving, fluting and experimentation with slips and glazes to create a range of work that is both distinctive and organic.
Since retiring, Nick has enjoyed the freedom of being able to concentrate on his individual pieces at his home studio, continuing his exploration of the possibilities of electric kiln firing.
