Leach Production Potter Henry Bird is currently on a 12 months sabbatical, exploring new experiences, environments and practises as he makes new individual work.
His collection of contemporary tableware, made at the Leach Pottery, with richly layered surfaces and subtle colours, lend the pieces the look and feel of smoke-fired pots; yet these elegant pieces are highly functional and each one totally individual.
‘I’ve been playing around with black and white slips under a clear glaze and sprinkling copper carbonate over the top. This element gives an element of unpredictability and surprise, making each piece even more special and unique.
